Frankfort, August 16.
We are informed by the news which reached this place eight days ago, and which has in the interval been often confirmed by private letters as well from Vienna as from Italy, that peace has been signed at Udine by the plenipotentiaries of Austria and France,—the respective Couriers are on their road to the Court of Vienna, and the directory at Paris, in order to procure their approbation of this definitive and separate peace, which will only be made public after the necessary ratification of it. By this peace all the Venetian Terra Firma, as far as Oglio, is ceded to the House of Austria, and consequently Mantua, Brescia, &c. The provinces of Limburg and Luxemburg also remain provisionally with the Emperor, and these countries will be restored to him in the first instance. We are even assured, that the city of Maestricht, the county Vroenhoven, and the parts of the countries of Drielhem, Franquemont, and Roelduc, ceded by Holland to the French republic will be in like manner surrendered to his Imperial majesty: these provinces, cities, and countries, will be exchanged for part of Bavaria, in which the fortresses of Ulm and Ingolstadt are situated; and we are even assured that this exchange is already concluded; the elector and his presumptive heir, the Duke de Deux Ponts, having agreed to it and signed it.
AIX-LA-CHAPELLE, Aug. 19.
Baron Loe d'Insternau, member for the states of the country of Limbourg, and brother-in-law to Count Meerfeldt, plenipotentiary from the Emperor to the Congress at Montebello and Udina, has received intelligence from good authority, that the provinces of Limbourg and Luxembourg are restored to the Emperor by the peace concluded with the French republic.
