DR. DAVIS' LECTURES GOOD GREAT BENEFIT IF ALL NEGROES COULD HEAR THEM

(By George F. King)

The kind of gospel that should be given the greatest masses of negroes along with the other truths taught them was sanely, forcefully delivered this morning at the National Religious Training School by Dr. D. Webster Davis. Being born at a time when he could study the characteristics of his race and become eminently fitted by experience to lecture to his race of the present day he has attained the position of one of the seers among his people. He contends manfully for the things that he thinks are right and the faults of his people purposely speaks of in order to remedy them. He takes the position that when conditions demand criticism it is helpful to receive chastening advice from a friend, and he is always true to his task. He is an optimist and is a human encyclopedia on the activities of his race.

This morning he gave his third lecture on "Negro Ideals." The topic discussed was "Domestic Ideals."

If the entire negro population of Durham could have heard this wholesome and timely talk the negro people and the community would be greatly benefitted, but a certain amount of good will be the outcome of such a practical admonition, and narration on the early life of the negro people.

Tomorrow at 4 p. m. Dr. J. C. Massee, of Chattanooga, Tenn., will preach and at 8 p. m. tomorrow night Dr. Davis will speak. Next week is the final week of the summer school and chautauqua and during the entire week the program will be varied and of a high class.
