Rotary Pushing Memorial Hall and Graded School Building For Tazewell

The Tazewell Rotary Club has launched a program for a Memorial Building to the Tazewell men who gave their lives in the World War, and also an adequate building for the grades now housed in the school building on Main Street. A very enthusiastic meeting, at which the plans were outlined, was held last Friday noon at Plum Creek Tea Room. R. O. Crockett, a member of the committee which has the preliminary work for the two buildings in charge, was the speaker for the Friday meeting, and gave in detail much information relative to the manner in which the building can be constructed, etc.

It is proposed to erect the Memorial building on the lot here recently conveyed to the American Legion, and it was the opinion of Mr. Crockett, and others, that the financing of the work could be easily handled. It is likely that work on this building will commence in the very near future. A committee composed of B. W. Stras, Jr., R. O. Crockett, A. C. Buchanan and Garland Peery is at work on the many details incidental to such buildings, and definite information will be forthcoming.

The financial condition of the Town of Tazewell was discussed incidentally, and the situation that developed showed that the Town was in position to help materially without a bond issue. The Town Streets are in good condition, the water supply question is believed to have been solved by the acquisition of valuable springs East of town and the Town is in fine shape. Tazewell has a wide awake council, and a live Recorder who keeps the financial affairs well in hand.

The members of the club felt 'chesty' over the coming here of the branch of the Kraft Cheese Co. The meeting this Friday, June 29th, will also be held at the Plum Creek Tea Room, and every member is urged to be present.
