Resolved, That the principle of the equal rights of the States, in the view of the Constitution and of all laws based upon it, constitutes the fundamental condition upon which the Union was formed and can alone be maintained.
Resolved, That we recognise in the removal of the Missouri restriction upon the equal rights of the slave-holding States a practical acknowledgment of that great principle upon the part of the Federal Government, and deem this a proper occasion to render our support and assistance to the Democratic party in the nomination and election of a Presidential candidate who may represent the late action of that party upon this question, and whose claims of success may be made to depend not upon a combination for the spoils of office, but upon a fair presentation of the great issue which is to be joined between the friends of the equal rights of the States and a strict construction, and those who are opposed to both.
