Wolverines To Take
On Bulldogs Friday
Night Under Lights

By JOEL W. SMITH

Morris Brown College's Purple Wolverines return to Herndon Memorial Stadium after two straight games on the road and will slug-it-out with the tough South Carolina State College Garnet and Blue Bulldogs, of Orangeburg, S. C., in their annual homecoming classic, Friday night under lights. Kick-off time will be 8 P. M.

The Garnet and Blue Bulldogs who defeated Claflin, Clark, Fort Valley State and Alabama A&M for four wins-in-a-row, after dropping decisions to Bethune-Cookman and Allen, will be hard to handle.

This means that the Purple Wolverines must play one of their better games if homecoming is to be celebrated properly.

A banner crowd is expected to be on hand to witness this important grid contest and the colorful homecoming festivities. Atlanta fans will recall the 13-8 homecoming thriller played by the Wolverines and Bulldogs here two years ago. Trailing with four minutes to play, Morris Brown put on a late come-from-behind rally to wrap up the verdict.

TO HOLD SPOTLIGHT
Reigning over the homecoming festivities and sharing the spotlight at intermission will be Miss Mary E. McKelvey, "Miss Morris Brown" of 1956-57. The lovely Morris Brown grid queen, who hails from Greenville, S. C., will have as her personal attendants, Miss Harriet E. Swann, "Miss Sophomore," of Charlotte, N. C.; and Miss Veleta Sims, "Miss Freshman," of East Point, Ga.

MORRIS BROWN
LEADS IN SERIES
Of the 12 games played between these two SIAC elevens since 1936, Morris Brown currently holds a 7-and-5 lead in the series. The Garnet and Blue Bulldogs won four games-in-a-row in 1946, 1947, 1948 and 1949, and the Purple Wolverines duplicated by sweeping to victory in 1950, 1951, 1954 and 1955.

Morris Brown broke South Carolina State's jinx in 1950, when the high-scoring Wolverines romped to a 65-0 victory. The Bulldogs handed the Wolverines their worst beating in 1948, when they white-washed the Atlantans, 34-0.
