Full Text

A letter from Washington states, that the repeal of the Judiciary Law has been determined on in the Senate 15 to 13. Among other questions, addressed to the consciences of the majority, it may be asked, Is this a measure of patriotism or of party spirit? Did it arise from objections to the law or to the Judges?

The Senate have concurred in most of the appointments made by the President during the recess. Care should be taken that such concurrence be not deemed a matter of course, for the power of the "s Monarchical Branch" of our government, would be much increased thereby.

The Senate divided on the appointment of Mr. Charles Pinckney, as Minister to Madrid: but that gentleman being already sent to Madrid, it perhaps occasioned a dilemma, in which, at length, a disposition to economize might overrule objections to his appointment.

The appointment of Mr. Gallatin is probably dissatisfactory to three-fourths of the people of Massachusetts.
