The following afflicting anecdote is extracted from a late Paris paper.

Among the fathers of families who perished on the wreck of the last Nivose, in the corvette Le Frigate Gueule, ship wrecked at the entrance of Brest Harbour, was a citizen Br who had long been an inhabitant of the Mauritius had with him two boys of 10 and 12 years of age he was bringing to France to be educated - when the danger was most imminent. this unfortunate father entreated from the windows of the cabin five persons. who were in a boat fastened by a rope to the corvette, to take his sons. "Save my children." he cried out. "we and I shall die contented." He had no sooner said it, than the rope which held the boat broke. All hope being now gone, he prepared to die with his children. He clasped them in his arms : the two boys wept and clung round their father. The corvette sunk, and buried in the deep one hundred and sixty seven victims.
