Full Text
Mr. Barber is begging the V. Buren Convention, which is to assemble in June, to nominate Palmer and Pettibone and earnestly, "We," says he, "do not see any other course which can be pursued by that convention without the prospect of CERTAIN DEFEAT before them." Now this is sound doctrine—the identical doctrine we have been preaching to our hostile friends, of late. Yes, gentlemen V. B. royal archers and seceding anti-masons, coalesce—unite on Palmer and Pettibone, the fittest representatives of your principles and your political character for purity and consistency: unite on an electoral ticket, with Barber at the tail; unite on masonic and anti-masonic. In Congressmen, being sure to have Barber one of them —be must become the everlasting candidate; unite upon renegade Whigs adhering masons, and a few pure Jackson Van Buren men to leaven the lump: for Senators unite your piebald forces upon piebald tickets: if you do not, certain defeat is before you; if you do—your defeat is also sure.—Vt. Watchman.
