PORTSMOUTH. August 26.

The state of Pennsylvania, we hear have passed a law by which the following taxes are laid, for raising money to support government, and paying the interest of public securities and part of the principal.

For every billiard Table. 15 00
For every Sulky, Chair, or Chaise, 1 10 0
For every four wheel Chaise, 4 00
For every Coach, Chariot, or post Chaise 10
For every cover'd Waggon or Caravan, 3 0
For every Stage Coach, 7 10 0
For every Stage Waggon, 5 00
For every gold Watch, 0 10 0
For every silver Watch, 0 5 0
For every gallon of Wine in casks. 0 0 6
For every doz. of Wine in bottles. 0 1 6
For every gallon of strong Beer,
Ale or Porter imported in casks,
For every doz. of ditto in bottles, 0 2 6
For every Cwt. of refined Sugar. 0 0 2

They have also taxed every Writ, Subpœna or other Judicial papers, to be paid by the respective clerks of the county courts. Also, all papers issued out at the Probate Office to be paid by the registers of probate courts.

They have also issued notes from the treasury, of the following denominations and numbers.

They have made false notes legal tenders in payment of all taxes, and death without benefit of clergy to counterfeit them.
