Como.
Como would without a doubt be experiencing a Wood River or Tombstone boom if it was only situated about 100 miles away from the Comstock where water had to be packed in, and where Indians were dangerous. As it is, the Comstock in its mightiness overshadows it, and it takes such a short time to accomplish the distance between the two places, that stories of rich finds do not have time or opportunity to become sufficiently magnified.
Should such rock as is being found in Como be exhibited in Virginia and reported as coming from some wild, unapproachable region, the excitement created would be almost a furor, and there would be a packing of valises and a strapping of blankets preparatory to a stampede. Overshadowed as it is by its too near and greater neighbor, it is difficult to attract the attention of capitalists, but the time is not far off when explorers will turn their attention in that direction. Difficult as it has been to secure moneyed attention the object has at last been accomplished in a measure, and San Francisco capital will doubtless soon be at work in one of the most promising mines of the district. After the first success has been made capital will flow in freely, only anxious for a chance to invest.
