AT LOS ANGELES
Twelve western states, including Arizona, will be represented at the fourth annual meeting of the Western States Taxpayers' Conference to be held this month at Los Angeles. The dates of the conference are October 11, 12 and 13.
Principal subjects to be presented before the conference by outstanding authorities include the relationship of federal, state and local taxation, increasing educational returns and reducing taxes through economy in school administration, analyzing bond proposals, the necessity of budgeting governmental expenditures, costs and methods of financing public improvements, and how excessive taxation deters industrial and agricultural development.
"A non-political discussion of the costs of Colorado river development" is listed among the important items on the program.
Arizona Man First President
The Western States Taxpayers' Conference was organized at Salt Lake City in 1923 when representatives of eleven western states met for the purpose of furthering the efforts of the various state taxpayers' associations for establishment of the greatest possible economy in the use of public funds, consistent with economy in all branches of the government,
Rudolph Kuchler of Phoenix was the first president of the Conference and is now the Arizona member of the advisory board. Other western states represented in the Conference are California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Dr. Milbank Johnson of Los Angeles is president of the conference and A. C. Rees of Salt Lake City is secretary.
Conference headquarters will be maintained at the Biltmore hotel in Los Angeles.
A cordial invitation is extended to all who are interested in the questions of taxation to attend the meetings of the conference and a large attendance from Arizona is desired.
