LOCAL LODGES
J. P. Burson, Grand Master, Washington and Alaska, on Official Visit
On his first trip to Alaska, J. P. Burson, Grand Master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for the jurisdiction of Washington and Alaska, reached here last night for the purpose of making official calls on the lodges of Juneau and Douglas.
He is accompanied by D. H. Williams, well known Anchorage business man and member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of that city, who will continue with him to Fairbanks.
Mr. Burson's home is in Tekoa, Wash., where he is a prominent lawyer.
He was elected to his present position in the I.O.O.F. last June.
"I am enjoying my visit very much and am delighted with the country and impressed with the hospitality of its people," Mr. Burson said.
He spent several days at Ketchikan before coming to Juneau, and will remain here for one week.
His first official visit on the Channel will be made to Silver Bow Lodge No. 1-A of Douglas this evening. Many members of the local lodge expect to attend that meeting, making the trip on a special ferry leaving Juneau at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday evening, Mr. Burson will make his official visit to Silver Bow Lodge No. 2-A of this city, and members of the Douglas lodge are expected to be in attendance.
An open meeting is planned while he is here, being held at Douglas Friday evening.
This will be for Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, Encampment members and friends.
An initiatory meeting will be held in the lodge rooms of the local lodge next Monday evening.
Today Mr. Burson and Mr. Williams were guests of local Odd Fellows, being shown around the city.
Later they will be taken for a trip over Glacier Highway, visiting Mendenhall Glacier, Auk Lake and other points of interest.
They will leave here next Tuesday for western and interior towns.
There are nine Odd Fellows' lodges in Alaska, including Juneau, Douglas, Ketchikan, Cordova, Valdez, Seward, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Nome.
Mr. Burson will visit all of these except Nome.
He expects to complete his trip and return to Seattle by October 20.
Grand Master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for Washington and Alaska, who arrived in Juneau last night and will make an official visit here, leaving next week for the Westward and Interior.
