HOUSTON, TEXAS - A reserve halfback named Eddie Caldwell caught fire and inspired Texas Southern to swamp Grambling 59-14 for their worst defeat in a decade before a homecoming crowd of 10,000 who were amazed as the speedy wingback picked 183 yards on seven plays.
Texas Southern scored a first four times they had the ball, they punted the fifth time, but intercepted and returned the interception for a fifth touchdown before intermission. Coach Robinson's Grambling team was never in the game.
TO SUMMARIZE 1ST QUARTER
Texas Southern went 45 yards in 6 plays with James Gardiner scoring from the 24. William Gulley stepped in from the 1 to climax a 63 yard march in 13 plays. Caldwell entered the game and went 75 yards on the first Texas play. Clarence Macon and Lawrence Bobb kicked points after touchdowns.
SECOND QUARTER
James Gardiner scored on a 15 yard run. Macon added extra point. Grambling finally scored after covering a fumbled punt on the four. Paul Green passed to Robert Smith for the touchdown. Green converted.
William Gulley intercepted a Green pass and returned 33 yards for the tally. 33-7.
THIRD QUARTER
Grambling opened scoring with a second half kickoff. Sterling Dyer returned to the Texas 13. Three plays later, Edward Murray plunged in from the 1. Green converted. After the kickoff, Caldwell moved 58 yards for a touchdown.
TSU moved 45 yards in three plays with Glossom scoring on a Durley pass from the Grambling 28. Alex Durley connected with Wm. Glossom for a 51 yard pass.

Willie Criss stepped over from the 1. James Waites caught passes for the two Texas points-after touchdowns.
