Shirks, Bounty Jumpers and Dead Beats Rob the Treasury.
Newport, R. I., April 26.—George E. Waring, superintendent of the street cleaning department, of New York, has sent an open letter to the papers here in answer to resolutions adopted by the Lawton Post of this city, in which he says he is as great a patriot and admirer of those who did fight for their country, as any one. He declares that the G. A. R. contains a very respectable minority of the honest and faithful soldiers, but all know that they have been powerless to stop the robbing of the treasury in the interest of shirks, bounty-jumpers and dead beats.
