The Boston Daily Advertiser publishes the following letter from a traveling correspondent, dated
PITTSBURGH, May 1, 1843.

Dear Sir:--I have arrived thus far on my annual excursion to the West. My route has been through New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore, and thence to this place. From Baltimore the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road is completed to Cumberland, a distance of 182 miles and that distance is performed very pleasantly in from 10 to 11 hours. The seats in the cars are far more comfortable than on our Eastern Rail Roads, being with high stuffed backs and of the precise shape of the rocking chair sometimes called the "Boston rocking chair." The passage is through the centre of the Car as on the Eastern roads, with seats for two persons on each side, but a division between the two occupants so as to give each passenger a comfortable arm chair. I rode the distance entirely without fatigue.

The character of the road from Baltimore to Harper's Ferry is well known. From Harper's Ferry to Cumberland, it has been recently finished, and from the judgment which I could form in our very rapid travel over it and short stops, I should think that it was not surpassed by any of our Eastern Rail Roads. The rail is a heavy U inverted rail--the masonry of a most admirable kind--indeed I think too highly finished. The tunnels, one of them a quarter of a mile in length, wrought from the solid rock, capacious, and in all respects as interesting and striking objects of the kind as I have ever seen.

I need not say that the scenery on a portion of this route is exceedingly bold and beautiful, and would justify a journey of a hundred miles at least, to see.

It is in contemplation here to construct a road to Connelsville, about 60 miles from this city, in the direction of Cumberland, and the movement is at this moment a far more serious one than at any former time.
