The legislature met in this town yesterday. The house formed at 10 o'clock when a committee was appointed to sort and count the votes for governor, lieutenant-governor, councillor, and treasurer. The house adjourned at 12 o'clock for the purpose of hearing the election sermon, which was preached by the Rev. Mr. Atwater of Middlebury, and displayed much learning and ingenuity. The music, vocal and instrumental, was directed by Mr. Booth. in such a manner as to merit the highest approbation.
His Excellency Isaac Tichenor, had 7,823 votes for governor, & is re-elected.
His Hon. Israel Smith, 5,085. Scattering 181.
For lieutenant-governor, Hon. Paul Brigham, 7,184 and is elected. Hon. Arad Hunt, 2,249. Zebina Curtis, 262. Scattering 455:
Councillors. Samuel Safford, William Chamberlin, John Strong, Jonas Galusha, Solomon Miller, Elitha Allis, Noah Chittenden, John White, Beriah Loomis, Eliakim Spooner, James Witherell, Stephen Williams.
