BRAWLEY, July 30. Stinson McNinch, 17 year old Brawley youth, was caught early Saturday in a daring attempt to hold up Fred Ferguson, night clerk at the Planters hotel here.
The youth entered the lobby shortly before 2 a. m. Saturday and without a gun to back up his demands ordered Ferguson to hand over the cash. At that moment Chief of Police Lon Cromer walked into the almost deserted lobby. police said. McNinch ignored Cromer's orders to surrender. He fled from the lobby. Cromer refused to shoot because of the boy's extremely youthful appearance.
McNinch ran from the hotel but was arrested within three blocks of the building by Officers P. L. Lovelady and Roscoe Phillips.
A complaint charging the boy with robbery was signed in Brawley justice court Saturday morning by L. I. Dungan and Judge H. B. Griffin certified him to juvenile court.
