Few U. S. Army officers had the rugged global experience that qualified Gen. Brehon (Burke) Somervell for his job as commanding general of the services of supply of the United States Army. For 28 years the man who saw to it that World War II soldiers from Naples to Nagasaki got the wherewithal to fight a war had hopped from America to Europe to the Orient and back again as engineer, surveyor, builder and administrator.
