Washington (LPA)- The real estate lobby is calling in its henchmen to Washington this week, and more than 150 presidents of local or state real estate boards will be here to lobby against rent control. and against the Taft-Wagner-Ellender housing bill.
However, arrayed against them will be organized labor, municipal officials who find their cities' housing facilities pitifully overcrowded, and many civic groups.
Wyatt Leads Fight
The newly-formed Americans for Democratic Action, national liberal organization, last week sent out a call to 300 mayors and city managers to "leave no doubt in your Senators' or Congressmen's minds how you stand on this crucial issue." Signing the message for ADA were Wilson Wyatt co-chairman of ADA and. former mayor of Louisville, Ky., Mayor Hubert Humphries of Minneapolis,' and President George Edwards of the Detroit Common Council.
"The critical problem now is, in the 45 days before liquidation of the rent offices starts, to get new legislation thru Congress continuing rent control without a blanket increase and with adequate funds for administration in a federal department or agency other than the defunct OPA."
