Extract of a letter from Oporto, August 10.

"Since our last arrived at this place, the Esprit, a Portuguese frigate, from a cruize; she is in a very shattered condition, having had an engagement with an Algerine corsair, of eighteen guns, which lasted near two hours, in which the corsair had forty men killed, and eighteen wounded, all her rigging shot away, and so much disabled that she struck to the Portuguese. The next day they fell in with another corsair which retook her, and began firing on the Esprit, but luckily she made her escape; she had thirty men killed and ten wounded."
