Full Text

For the week past our streets have been thronged with members of the Society of Friends, on their way to Newport, to attend their Yearly Meeting.— It is good to see so many strong carriages, so many sleek horses, and so many smiling faces. It is worth the while of people pent up in compact towns and villages, and compelled to inhale a thousand villainous smells, to mark the difference between these ruddy strangers who seize a moment from domestick cares to meet each other and grasp the hand and drop the tear of friendship on the same spot which their father's visited before them, and their own puny bodies and sickly countenances. It is worth the while of the fashionable belle, to look upon the neat drab bonnet and the rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes which it shades—upon the upright form and easy carriage of those who have never been slaves to fashion, and deny, if they can, that beauty is most beautiful when unadorned by art.
