A PIRATE.
The ship Miser, from Boston, on her passage to this port, was boarded off the east end of Cuba by a large copper bottomed schooner, with a crew of one hundred and five men, chiefly French; only one gun mounted on deck. They informed a gentleman who was a passenger in the ship and who spoke French, that they had upwards of 20 guns, which by stress of weather they had been obliged to put below a few days before. The ship was in ballast which those pirates examined carefully for money; not finding any, they took off two six pound gun carriages, five or six pieces of canvass, and several other articles, for which they returned by way of compliment a few pieces of English nankeens and some cotton stockings -- they would not tell where they were from nor to what nation they belonged. When they fired they were under British colours, which were immediately hauled down. Our informant adds, he is of opinion that he had seen several of the men in this city, one of them knew him and conversed with him, but would not tell what they were, nor where they were from.
