Summer School Begins Monday In 35 Centers

Summer school will begin Monday, June 19, in nine secondary schools and 26 elementary schools. The secondary school programs will run through August 11; elementary sessions will end July 28.

The elementary program offers an opportunity for strengthening in the language arts and arithmetic. Enrichment programs are offered in some of the elementary schools for more able children.

Secondary school students who have done unsatisfactory work during the regular term in many cases may be permitted to repeat courses for credit in summer school.

In addition this program provides an opportunity for able students to take courses they could not include during the regular term.

A recreational program is operated at each of the summer schools with the exception of Chase, Garnett, Nobel and Morton.

All students who attend summer school, except the gymnasiums and swimming pools, must pay the summer school fee of $2.00, which is due the first day of the session.

Pupils outside of Gary must pay tuition fees of: $63.20 for a four-hour secondary session; or $31.60 for a 2-hour course. In the elementary schools, the tuition is $29.58 for 3 hours.
