FOR THE FIGHT.—The number of men the Government has now in the field and called for will amount in the aggregate to 250,000. As many more are ready to take the field if the necessities demand their services. The question is asked by the enemies of the Government; For what purpose is this immense army designed? We know nothing of the plans of the Administration, but as the time for conciliation and compromise is long since past according to the admissions of the rebel States themselves, and as the traitors are in arms in immense numbers for the open and avowed purpose of overturning the American Government, and as war has been begun by the Confederate traitors, we hope the army of the Union is designed to punish the scoundrels in the most terrible manner by carrying the war into the very heart of the nigger Confederacy. We trust the patriot army will not be compelled to remain inactive while treason flourishes on an inch of American soil.
