Commerce Official Denies Rumors that CAB Is Under Investigation

WASHINGTON, (AP)--The Commerce Department has taken official note of rumors that the Civil Aeronautics Board is under investigation -- and has denied them.

Robert B. Murray, Jr., undersecretary of Commerce for Transportation, said he knew of no investigations having to do with the CAB or any of its five members, nor of any studies that might lead "to any recall or resignation" of a CAB member.

He referred to reports in aviation trade magazines and in certain syndicated columns that as many as five groups -- including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and at least two congressional committees-were looking into CAB operations.

These reports implied-without giving sources of their information--that the probers were looking into possible favoritism by board members toward certain airlines, or other forms of improper administration of the Civil Aeronautics Act.

Murray suggested that the reports of CAB investigations "could be the result of the harvest moon, or of the warm Indian summer."
