LONDON, April 24.
MILITARY DISAFFECTION.

A private letter, received from a Gentleman residing at Rennes, in Brittany, states the following particulars:

"The commandant of the town having been informed that two regiments of the French line stationed there, had expressed great dissatisfaction at the arrest of General Moreau, he ordered them to assemble upon the Esplanade, where he exhorted them to inform him of the cause of complaint, and told them, if any man would come forward, and state his grievances, they should be immediately remedied. One of the grenadiers immediately stepped from the ranks, and in loud terms informed the commandant, that their grievances arose from the conduct of the Chief Consul, who had caused their General, Moreau, to be unjustly arrested, and had instituted charges against him which were completely unfounded: that he (General Moreau) had rendered more services to the republic by his retreats, than ever the Chief Consul had done by his victories. The commandant observed to him, that it was necessary, for the safety of the republic, that traitors should be denounced; that whatever services Moreau might have rendered, it was evident he had associated with a set of miscreants who were determined upon the restoration of monarchy, and the return of Tyranny—He wished, however, to know, if they were all of the same opinion as the grenadier who had stepped forward? Upon this being made known, the whole of the two regiments to a man stepped out and seconded their comrade, declaring they were anxious to defend their General (Moreau). The consequence of this intimation was, the regiments were ordered immediately into the interior of the country."

The commandant of the town, informed of two regiments' dissatisfaction at General Moreau's arrest, assembled them and invited grievances. A grenadier complained of the Chief Consul's unjust arrest and unfounded charges against Moreau, claiming Moreau's retreats served the republic more than the Consul's victories. The commandant defended the necessity of denouncing traitors associated with monarchy restoration. The entire regiments stepped forward in support, declaring anxiety to defend Moreau.
