Full Text

The author of Blair M'Clenachan's vindication in yesterday's paper, seems to be little acquainted with the laws of the state of New-York, and much less with the principles of the man whom he endeavours to defend. It may not be amiss to inform the public, that Blair M'Clenachan has already suffered his property to be attached in the island of St. Eustatia, in the year 1780, by his creditors. Now in the name of common sense, why should a citizen of the state of New York, be obliged to go to the state of Pennsylvania, or to Algiers, or any other place, and enter into a litigation with Blair M'Clenachan, when the laws here afford a sufficient remedy? If Blair M'Clenachan is a man of such property and so worthy a citizen as his friend pretends that he is, why has he not paid the debt, which is the ground of the attachment? The DEBT IS JUST---HAS BEEN LONG DUE---and payment of it has often been demanded: The public therefore will judge whether Blair M'Clenachan acts like a worthy citizen, in still refusing payment of the debt; when, according to his friend's account, the want of property is not the cause of it.
