Full Text

A Sane Woman Declared Lunatic. - A woman named Gertrude Levi was taken before Judge Hilton on Tuesday, and, being deemed insane, was ordered to be taken to the Lunatic Asylum. She was unable to understand the proceedings, and when the result of the investigation was made known to her, she shrieked and screamed in such a manner that the officers were compelled to allow her to depart. She had previously caused the arrest of a man named Frank Miller, upon a charge of obtaining $350 by false pretenses, and it is more than likely the grief caused by the loss of her money, was all that made her appear insane.

She was on her way to St. Louis, where her brother resides, when this man, pretending to act as her attorney, left her penniless, and, with the aid of the Probate Court, almost succeeded in sending her to the Lunatic Asylum. In cases of this kind, a slight degree of caution and a little less haste, might be deemed advisable.
