Sixth Ward.

Quite an excitement has been created on the east side of the town, on the elopement of the gay and pretty Miss * * * * * *, of East Broadway, with one of the officers of the Montgomery Light Guards of this city. We remember the lady well-we have seen her often. The last time was at the Erie Ball, where through the mazy dance her beauty was the general theme of admiration. In her eyes there was witchery.

"Of her dark eyes, 'twere vain to tell,
But gaze upon that of the gazelle,
'Twill assist thy fancy well."

The plan of the elopement was well laid, and deserves to be noticed; there was a circumstance connected with it that was laughable; the lady's house used to be the resort of many young men, fond admirers of the "goddess that reigned there." On Sunday evening she went out with her favored one, as usual, to take a walk, as the old folks thought; but, in truth, she and her lover wended their way to the Minister's, with a few friends, where the interesting ceremony was performed that placed the lovely creature under the protection of the gallant soldier. He has won the gem-let him wear it:

"The brave alone deserve the fair."

She returned not to her parents, but to her own house, that had been prepared for her. And there she now reigns, the Queen

"Of all she surveys."

During her absence from her parents' house, there was a couple of young men, one a collector of one of our wards, and a hot politician, and one of her greatest admirers, talking politics to the old couple, on the relative claims of Van Buren and Harrison to the Presidential chair, and anxiously waiting for the return of her-the cause of their visit. But she came not. At the time they were waiting for her she was playing "the wife" at her own house. O, the stratagem of women! As to the Collector, he is an altered man. This makes the third time he has been jilted. Little does the fair one think, since her elopement, he has been beside himself; and

"Of affections crushed within."

The happy couple, we understand, started at five o'clock yesterday morning for Long Branch, to while away the fleeting hours, dream of paradise, and to sip of the cup of luxury, while the sea breeze is blowing the ringlets from her crimson face. It is believed that they have been engaged some time—

"That she was the lady of his love
Before she was his bride."
