What is this article about?

Report on surviving widows of Revolutionary War veterans pensioned under the July 4, 1836 congressional act, listing about 30 women from various states, their counties, ages (92-108), and marriage years (1750-1790), remarkable for longevity and recent pension receipts up to March 4.

Merged-components note: Merged story component with its table (list of pensioners) due to sequential reading order (40 and 41) and spatial overlap in bounding boxes. Relabeled from 'story' to 'domestic_news' as it covers historical American revolutionary war survivors, fitting local/national non-narrative news. The embedded ad snippet at the end of the story text appears to be OCR artifact and is ignored in the merge.

SURVIVING "WOMEN OF THE REVOLUTION."

The following is a list of the surviving widows

(out of about 5,000 admitted) who were pensioned

under the first act that was passed by Congress

viz: July 4, 1836, for the service of their husbands

in the revolutionary war. To entitle them to a

pension, the act required that the marriage should

have taken place prior to the completion of their

husband's services in that war. It is remarkable

that in nearly all of them they applied for and re-

ceived their pensions up to the 4th of March last,

the date of the last return; and still more so, that

in several cases they should be living 84 years

after their marriage, and have enjoyed their coun-

try's bounty for 3x years:
