Full Text

As a result of his correspondence with Hq. US Air Force in Washington, Lt. Colonel Christmas has been advised that a program for enlistment of applicants into the Regular Air Force is being set up in Puerto Rico.

This program not only provides that those for the Air Force enlistment of Virgin Islands residents within the area but also provides that those who have Selective Service obligations for service in the Armed Forces may choose a branch other than the Army by their own voluntary action.

No longer must applicants travel to the states for this purpose. However, they will report to Puerto Rico, and if rejected return home, at their own expense. Those accepted will be shipped to Lackland AF Base for training and reassignment.

Colonel Christmas stated that a meeting was held in San Juan on August 2nd to work out details of the program. Further information will be released as soon as it is available.
