You will this day, have to give in your votes for 8 persons, for a Congress Nomination. It is a matter of great importance, that you choose such persons, as will not betray your interests. We have seven members already in Congress, men of the best characters and abilities. Great pains are taken, in the first place to make you change them for others. What is the difficulty with them? They are all native citizens, with whom we are acquainted They are men of the first reputations. They are not demagogues, nor speculators, nor men of DESPERATE FORTUNES. They are lovers of peace. and have every thing at hazard, in case of a war. Who are the men set up in opposition to them? Look over the nominations which the Jacobin Club that met at Hartford on the 20th of March made out, and have circulating. Who are set up in them? First, a member of Congress, just to blind your eyes. But look at the next four Names. Are they such men as we want? I need not answer. Every one knows them. There are all four Land speculators, head and ears deep; and that is enough. Besides, when we reflect on their situations, will you not ask, why they are pushing so hard to get into the offices. which other men, at least as good as themselves, hold.— Withhold your votes from men who take such measures to procure their own election. Put them down to the bottom of the hill where they belong.
