Pres. R. J. Thomas of the UAW-CIO issued the following statement Dec. 29:
"In accordance with the unanimous vote of the UAW-CIO international executive board at the special meeting in Detroit Dec. 29 I have appointed a committee of three to investigate the charges made by an outside organization against Board Member Ellsworth Kramer of Toledo. The committee consists of Board Members Richard T. Leonard, Wm. Cody and H. L. Smith.
"The resignation tendered by Mr. Kramer will not be acted on by the board until the investigating committee has made its report. At Mr. Kramer's request the board relieved him of his assignments and responsibilities as regional director and international representative so as to free the board of embarrassment until the investigation has been completed and proper action has been taken by the board.
"The board is determined to protect the interests of the union membership to the fullest extent. At the same time it insists that every opportunity be given to Mr. Kramer to utilize the safeguards and guarantees provided by the democratic constitution of the UAW-CIO.
"The membership will be given a full report as soon as the facts are available and action has been taken in accordance with them. The investigating committee is under instruction to proceed with all possible speed."
In his letter of resignation Kramer made an unqualified denial of all the charges.
