PORTLAND, Me. June 12.

Yesterday the Convention for considering the expediency of a separate government in the three eastern counties, met in this town agreeable to adjournment. After making choice of General Wadsworth for President in room of the Hon. William Gorham, Esq. who was absent and passing some other votes; on motion of Mr. Davis, the Convention was adjourned to the second Tuesday of September next, then to meet in this place.

The petition, from the Convention being at this time before the General Court, and as that honorable body will probably soon take up the subject, there remained nothing of consequence for the Convention to do at that time. But the Committee which were chosen the last session of the Convention, consisting of Stephen Hall, and Jacob Bradbury, Esq'rs. and Capt. James Carr, were revived, and with their former powers continued to the next sitting of the Convention.
