"DON'T MAKE EXCUSES-MAKE GOOD!"

I once had an obligation to fulfill that took more time than had been anticipated. Growing impatient at the delay, my superior took me to task about it. I tried to explain the delay, but was met with the admonition, "Don't make excuses—make good!"

It was said in kindness, but it stung! Fortunately it stung in the right way. I thought it over and found that admonition had a lot of meaty philosophy in it. And for several nights following that I worked until after midnight finishing my task.

Anybody can make excuses—the easiest thing in the world. But it takes elbow-grease and backbone glue to stick to the job and "strut your stuff."
