LINES
On the Death of the late Mrs. Soneo
BY A LADY.
YE,
Whose Genial
Will not disdain to shed the willing tear,
But let the sigh of sorrow languish here.
Turn then thy thoughts where youth and beauty's bloom
Are rifled by the tyrant of the tomb.
Let not that lovely worth, so soon display'd
Sink, with her ashes, in oblivion's shade.
Let not such merit unlamented die,
Unmourn'd, unwept for by soft pity's eye;
Unmourn'd for by a tender parent dear,
Whose anxious breast would throb with pangs severe
Alas! no brother, sister, or a friend,
Can mourn this much-lamented stranger's end.
Strangers then weep, for She deserv'd a tear
She was, like virtue, lovely and sincere.
No husband can her early loss deplore.
For death, alas! had taken him before
Whose death her ev'ry hope of joy bereft
Nor one sad gleam of consolation left.
While low in earth her beauteous body lies
Her soul, triumphant, seeks its native skies
There, in the realms of yon celestial light,
Their kindred spirits will once more unite.
