Evidence Lost As
Cider Blows Up

Captain John Mayo of the El Centro police department is faced with the necessity of gathering new lots of cider for testing as alcoholic contents.

Mayo gathered several gallons of the suspicious cider into new fold three nights ago, and placed it in a suitcase, but he did not count on the weather.

Early this morning, as Bill Mitchell, desk sergeant, was contemplating police reports, he heard muffled thuds from some point to the left of his desk. At first he thought it was the janitor, working in the hallway. But the thuds sounded louder, and Mitchell began to investigate. He even looked in the safe.

The investigations came to an abrupt end when he discovered a liquid trickle leading from the suitcase and spreading over the floor. Hurriedly he opened the suitcase, but not in time to save the last of the cider bottles, every one of which had blown its cap off.
