PLANS COMPLETED
KU KLUX GAVE $15 AT BAND CONCERT. FUND NETTED $220 FRIDAY NIGHT.
Two hundred and twenty dollars had been raised by the various organizations participating in the Empty-stocking movement up to Saturday night. Of this sum approximately $60 was secured at the band concert given at the court house Friday night under the auspices of the Kiwanis Club. Besides the Kiwanis Club other organizations participating in the movement are the Masons, the Woodmen, and the Methodist and Baptist churches. Following the concert Friday night there was a meeting of committees representing these bodies, and committees to administer the funds were appointed. They are to do the work or buying, packing and distributing.
The Woodmen of the World subscribed $100 to the fund, while the Masons and the Baptist and Methodist churches contributed $20 each. The actual sum realized through the band concert totaled $59.30 and a bushel of potatoes was given in addition. Besides money a great many articles, including clothing and other useful things have been given. About 20 baskets will be distributed among worthy old negroes.
The Stone Castle Chapter. D. A. R., is working on a plan which will take in only the needy children of the county and calls for the distribution of toys and things of this nature.
A donation of $10. sent in a registered letter and bearing the signature, "From the Ku Klux Klan of Terrell County," was received. It was sent to R. R. Marlin, secretary of the Kiwanis Club.
A large doll. auctioned twice, brought $7.75. It was bought first by the Dawson band. which turned it back to the auctioneer. Several young women volunteered their services to go out on the streets and solicit contributions to the fund. R. IL. Saville. president of the Kiwanis club, presided and introduced the speaker of the evening. R. R. Jones, who talked upon the Christmas Spirit. He declared that money was not the main thing in life and urged those present to contribute not with money only, but with other influences which will help the needy to help themselves.
The Dawson Concert Band, playing like veterans, contributed much to the success of the occasion. It was highly complimented by many of those present.
