What is this article about?

The Broadview dome test well in Yellowstone County, Montana, started drilling on June 1, 1937, has been acidized, yielding several barrels of 45 gravity oil from the Devonian formation at 5129 feet. It's the first deep test penetrating Devonian in the Rocky Mountain area.

Acid Applied To Devonian Oil Showing At Broadview
The Journal is in receipt of a bottle of oil received from E. A. Beeler of Billings, to be added to the Journal's collection of oil samples from every discovery well in the State of Montana.
The crude is said to be 45 gravity and is said to have come from the Devonian formation. The well has been acidized but no report of the outcome has been received by the Journal.
By E. A. BEELER
BILLINGS Broadview dome test well, in NE NE 1/4 SW 1/4 Section 18, Twp. 3N, Rg. 23E, Yellowstone county, is being tested for production following acidization by Dowell, Inc., of Casper.
Several barrels of 45 gravity oil were swabbed out during the process of cleaning the well, the oil coming from the Devonian limes at 5129 feet. There is a known saturation at 5042 to 5056, of black oil, presumably at the base of the Madison lime, and two showings at higher levels, one at 4,000 to 4165, presumably in the Amsden and another at 3464 to 3484, presumably in the Embar formation. The showings treated are in the 140 feet of lime between the bottom of the casing and 5129 feet.
This test started drilling June 1, 1937, under operating agreement between Murray Brothers and Broadview Dome Oil company.
Later it was drilled to its present depth by Signal Oil company of California.
Present completion is under operating agreement with Calatana Oil Company of Los Angeles.
E. J. Murray, Van Nuys, Ed Bowen, and Ralph De Rose, of Los Angeles, J. C. Yenney of San Francisco, Frank C. and John Murray of Minneapolis are on location directing operations and observing completion of the well.
Of particular interest to oil men is that this is the first deep test in this section of the Rocky Mountain area that is believed to have penetrated into the Devonian formation. A 6,000 foot test by Indian Territory Illuminating Oil company in the Big Lake field two years ago evidently did not penetrate the base of the Madison, as it is thought by some oil men that the Big Lake hole checked 1,410 feet deeper than the Broadview dome test. The Billings Polytechnic Institute made a chemical analysis of the oil, which showed 45 gravity.
