The quantity of Cotton now in the city and Liberties of Philadelphia, appears, by authentic returns, to be equal to 32,000 bales of every quality, weighing ten millions of pounds. The present number of cotton spinning establishments in the city and county of Philadelphia, is thirty six—The use of cotton is extending rapidly, particularly in Pennsylvania. It will serve for every purpose, which does not require fulling. Vegetables cannot be fulled. The cotton Blanket has been made with great success and profit. The quantity of Blankets now in use in the United States, weighs full 25,000,000 of pounds, and they will serve for every purpose within doors. Those used out of doors, or in the wet, do not exceed 250,000 pounds in weight, or one blanket in the hundred. Ninety-nine in every hundred are excellent and handsome when made of cotton only. The vast quantity of cotton in Philadelphia, will spread in every direction thro' the middle States. In Baltimore, there is also a very great quantity, much of which goes into the Chesapeake and Delaware Peninsula, and into Pennsylvania and Maryland. In like manner, New York and Albany, and the seaports of all the Eastern states are full of cotton, courting the hand of the male and female manufacturers. This presence of the raw material, will give birth and extension to manufactures. Hence Greece and Italy produced statues and temples of marble, and hence Russia makes the best linens in the world. Hence Italy manufactures silks. Hence England and Sweden have manufactures of Copper and Iron. America will have manufactures of Cotton, for before she discovered the importance of this plant, she manufactured all the clothing materials she could raise or import: all the wool, flax, hemp, leather and iron. The Louisiana lead has actually given rise to the manufactory of balls, shot, colors, sheets, buttons, utensils and other things, equal to the whole annual interest of the purchase money. Manufactures are springing up every where, and every day. We make in the U. States, twenty-one millions worth of our clothing already. What is to prevent the manufacture of the other twenty millions? Britain will rue her insolent and predatory conduct.

The price of our grain can and will be supported by the distilleries and breweries. We import fourteen millions of gallons of distilled spirits and molasses to make spirits. To manufacture this, will require nearly seven millions of bushels of grain. This alone will support the price of barley, rye, corn and wheat; as wines, spirits and molasses decrease.

The non-intercourse will keep out rival foreign liquors.
