BANK.
Supposed Burglar Was Trying to Reach Sick Watchman.
A man in the street saw a man break a window of the East Side branch of the Corn Exchange Bank at Norfolk and Grand streets, about 7 o'clock last night, and set up a yell that the bank was being robbed.
But the man who broke the window didn't run away. He calmly crawled through the hole he had made. A few minutes later he poked out his head and yelled for help. He had no trouble in getting it.
Soon it was all explained. Timothy Sweeney, the night watchman, who was locked in the bank, had been stricken with paralysis. Christopher Iverson, janitor of the house next door, heard his moans and knowing that there was no other way to get at the man at once broke the window and went to his assistance.
Sweeney, who has been employed in the bank for the last eight years, was sent to Gouverneur Hospital. He probably will recover. He lives at 207 Bedford street, Brooklyn.
