STATE-WIDE COTTON
MEETING CALLED

ATLANTA Oct. 9—Gov. Hugh M. Dorsey today issued a proclamation for the state-wide cotton convention which has been called to be held in the hall of the House of Representatives, State capitol, Atlanta, on October 15-16 by the Georgia Division, American Cotton Association.

The governor, in his proclamation, invites and urges a full attendance of the people from all sections of the state at the conference, "that in unity of action and singleness of purpose the best interest of the people may be preserved."

"In the present unstable condition of the cotton trade and the depressed value of the raw staple," declares Governor Dorsey, "it is deemed advisable by the officials of the American Cotton Association that the representatives of the cotton growing interests of the state, bankers, merchants and others, should assemble together in joint conference for the purpose of discussing and taking action upon the wisest and best methods of handling and marketing the 1920 crop. The continued progress and prosperity of the state depends largely upon its agricultural population and the producers of the primary wealth of Georgia are entitled to fair and reasonable values for their products. Wholehearted, co-operative efforts on the part of the people at this time, it is hoped, will tend to greatly improve the situation and prevent a possible financial depression on the farming and commercial life of the state."

President R. W. Mattox, of the Georgia Division of the cotton association, in announcing details of the convention, said today that some of the most prominent statesmen and business men in the South will make addresses. Among these will be Governor Richard I. Manning, of South Carolina; U. S. Senator Ed Smith, of South Carolina; United States Senator Thos. Heflin, of Alabama; Hon. J. A. Brown, of North Carolina; J. S. Wannamaker, president of the American Cotton Association; Harvie Jordan, national secretary, American Cotton Association; and Hon. J. J. Brown, commissioner of agriculture, of Georgia.
