Bondsmen Surrender Metcalf, Former Gardener, and He Is Held Without Bond.
HANSEN FAILS TO APPEAR
Nashville, Oct. 8.-(Special.)-The Davidson county grand jury is awaiting a "new development" in the Cooper murder case, which will be presented to them as soon as possible, in effort to secure an indictment against Dennis E. Metcalf, Cooper's gardener who is being held now without bond by the county authorities.
Assistant Atty.-Gen. Charles Gilbert declared that "a new development"
is expected, but would not divulge its nature, stating that as the case now stands, it is not within the province of Gabriel Hansen, psycho-analytical detective from Memphis, to present his evidence before the grand jury as scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
Failed to Show Up.
Hansen failed to show up at the sitting of the grand jury and was summoned to court on an instanter subpoena. He was found by the authorities at his new rooming house, where he has been since his disappearance from the Hermitage hotel Sunday morning.
Following closely upon Hansen's failure to appear before the grand jury, Tuesday afternoon, James B. Hill, one of Metcalf's bondsmen, appeared at the criminal court and asked that the proper steps be taken to release him from the gardener's bond. He would not state his reason to the representatives of the press at the time.
He was released from Metcalf's bond, however, and the gardener was arrested and placed in jail for the third time since the arrival here of Detective Hansen.
