Full Text

Extract of a letter from an English Gentleman at Hanover.

"Several new recruits have lately been raised in this Electorate, and they are very diligent in learning their exercise. This augmentation is in consequence of some regiments being ordered to Gibraltar, &c. and, indeed, it was a necessary step, for otherwise we should have been in rather a defenceless state, which would be very improper at a time when the King of Prussia is menacing us; now he may attack as soon as he pleases, and I think we shall give him a warm reception. The men ordered from hence are in good spirits, and I assure you that there is not a soldier but what would readily lay down his life in the service of his Royal master King George III."
