part of the Lord's day in his mechanical avocation,
to the disturbance of his neighbors and in
defiance of the good and wholesome laws which
provide for the due observance of the Sabbath,
has lately been prosecuted by the Tythingmen
of Nantucket. Claiming the privilege of doing
what seemed right in his own eyes, he refused
to pay the fine imposed upon him and was committed
to prison. At this he set up the cry of
persecution, and his friends, as destitute of morality
as himself, raised a purse and liberated him.
This has been repeated the second time, and he
still persists in his design, to the no small danger
of sapping the foundation of morality and good
order. These modern free-thinkers, who "neither
fear God nor regard man," in thus attempting
to maintain their own fancied rights, evince a
most sovereign contempt for the rights of others.
