CAR SHORTAGE

Representative John W. Langley, of Kentucky, is of the opinion that the present shortage in the coal supply can be charged wholly to the lack of transportation. He has had correspondence on the subject with some of the largest producers in the country. They state that soft coal is brought from the mine and invariably discharged directly into railroad cars waiting at the mouth. If the cars are not there they declare the mine has to be shut down, and the men remain idle until more cars are provided. Mr. Langley comes from a coal producing section of the country, and has personal knowledge of the conditions, which has been corroborated by his correspondents. Pending legislation designed to relieve the car shortage will receive his earnest support.
