Full Text

Winter Sports on the Ice. On Thursday or Friday, last, while a young man named George Adams was fishing on Neversink Pond, an Otter made his appearance on the ice. With a pocket pistol the fishermen put two balls into the animal, which it succeeded in escaping with under the ice. A short time afterwards an old trapper came out of the swamp with the otter, having two traps attached to it—one of them being sprung into the other. Adams relinquished proprietorship to the game, and brought home as handsome a "string" of pike as was ever taken off the pond.
