The Land Titles In Jay.—The Frontier Sentinel speaks in this way of land titles in Jay: "When the town was organized seventy-five years ago, it was laid out in twelve ranges; but for some reason it has always been supposed there were only eleven. Deeds have always been given on the supposition that there were only eleven, and now that the mistake is discovered, some people find that others hold a deed for the land they have bought and lived on, while they themselves hold a deed of some other persons land. Some of those who live in the twelfth range are more fortunate than those who live in the other ranges. Paschal Wright, for example can hold his farm in the twelfth range by right of possession, and by deed he had 100 acres in the eleventh range which is clear again. It is certainly not pleasant for a man who has bought land and paid for it, and lived on it for years, and improved it, to suddenly find that his neighbor, who lives east of him, legally holds a deed of his place and can turn him out of his house and home."
