FINCASTLE.

FRIDAY DECEMBER 19, 1823.

From the Rockingham Register.

The celebrated Mr. Niles of the Baltimore Weekly Register appears to prefer Gen. Jackson's claims to the Presidency; and will have it in his power to do the country much good or much injury if the General would serve, he might without much difficulty obtain the second office in the gift of the people.

Mr. Niles' influence is certainly considerable, but we are disposed to believe that it will be exerted in behalf of Mr. Adams. It may not be the case, but we have strong reasons for believing it.

We hope ere long that he will openly avow his sentiments on that subject.
