COOLIDGE IS "JOSHED" BY CABINET MEMBERS
Absent Minded. But Home Loving Vice-President Enters Cabinet Meeting With Queer Looking Package
Washington, June 27.—Vice-President Coolidge appeared at a Cabinet meeting at the White House this morning carrying a small, battered handbag. His tight clutch of the bag should have aroused the curiosity of one of Commissioner Haynes' subordinates, such as the Rev. John Wesley Hill, now one of the enforcement officers of the Prohibition bureau, who visited the White House before the Cabinet meeting.
The Vice President denied that the bag contained anything valuable and then, for him, became almost garrulous.
"Really, it's Mrs. Coolidge's bag in which she carries her knitting," he explained. "People insist upon writing letters to me at my hotel and sometimes I carry a bag full of mail to my office at the Capitol,
Today I forgot there was a Cabinet meeting, filled the bag and then had to bring it here."
